Flyer Safety Brief

Flyer Safety Brief

As part of our overall safety mission to support all our members, we would like to introduce you to the IBA Flyer Safety Brief, a new approval (sign-off) on the IBA Flight Progression Chart. The aim of the brief is to better prepare you, either as a flyer, or as an instructor, for the increasing level of risk associated with more advanced flying skills. In particular, the brief introduces the flyer to the personal responsibilities they have for maintaining their own safety and how this supports the instructor to keep them safe. The brief is the final sign-off to achieve full IBA Level 1 status and it is to be delivered to a flyer once they have completed all other IBA Level 1 flight skills and before they start any IBA Level 2 progression.

The IBA distinguishes between the sport of indoor skydiving (engaged in by patrons with IBA accounts seeking approval of flight skills though the IBA's Flight Progression System) and recreational flying (engaged in by entertainment customers who do not intend to pursue approval of skills). While indoor skydiving is safe for all ages, the inherent risk of the activity is necessarily greater for those engaging in the sport of indoor skydiving, particularly as they progress through more sophisticated maneuvers.
