On the 23rd of March 2012 Airkix, Manchester hosted the 6th edition of our exciting Scrambles Competition.
This comp is a non professional FS competition, that is becoming very popular in the UK. Every edition sees more and more attendees signing up with the last one being the biggest edition so far, 24 teams giving a total number of 96 flyers registering.
Our local FS expert and competition supervisor is Simon Cathrine. Simons experience allows every scrambles event lots of variety which is hugely successful, the competitors love the variation and the fun that it brings to each event.
Team selection is all done at random, teams are drawn from the participants and are divided in to 4 groups. Each team has a mix of experience, all of the teams are formed with one important element.... one member of each team is selected based upon their experience. This experience allows for them to be the team captain. The captains have competition experience and are able to lead the team and help coach individuals on specific slots and maneuvers with the hopes to always strive to bring out the best in each team member.
Each team is allowed a practice round prior to the actual competition. The practice round draw is always a random formation skydive (no blocks) which allows the team to learn to fly together as a group and become familiar with each other along with an aid to reducing pre-competition nerves!
The actual competition dives are a typical mix of routines drawn at random, including all random routines for high scoring rounds, some introduction to block moves for some people on some dives and even some "slot-switching" moves on some blocks to add to the fun and complexity.
This variety really does mentally challenge all of the experience levels of the competitors.
Round 1-4 are completed as teams and Round 5 the novelty round is done as an individual, allowing competitors to show off their personal body flying skills. Each competitor is on their own putting everyone on a level. It is easy to see the nerves on all of the competitors, both novice flyers and experienced flyers...!
The winners of the last scrambles competition:
1st place- Jo Burns, Charlie Pearce, Louise Shaw, Carsten Cooper–Jenson
2nd place- Ane Brentford, Simon Nath, David Simpson, Colin Sutcliffe
3rd place- Shell Meakins, Johnny Baines, Patricia Hall, Cez Krzyczkowski
Gorgeous prize for the winner team has they had 20 mins tunnel time!
We are watching people progressing every competition... this is a great result beside the fun for all of us.
We can't wait for the next competition which is scheduled for May 4th - This is the Free Fly scrambles with Adam Mattacola!!!
