The First World Champions

The First World Champions

The 1st FAI World Championships of Indoor Skydiving took place October 23-24 at Hurricane Factory Prague. An event of incredible proportions, we at the IBA are thrilled with the turn-out of some 250 competitors from 23 countries. For those unable to get to Prague, Susan Dixon of the IPC kept us in the loop with hourly updates over the 2 days of competition.

Day 1 consisted of the start of every event - 4way FS, 4way FS Female, 4way FS Junior Demonstration, Freestyle, Dynamic 2 way, and Dynamic 4 way. Read on about how the teams began their quest to gold, along with some lesson learns like camera placement for VFS Competition and the judging of Dynamic.

Day 2 brought the final rounds where months and years of training culminated to determine who the winners would be. Surprises, excitements, and upsets abound - read about them here. Also be sure to check out the photos from the Opening Ceremony and here are Awards Ceremony photos.

Full results can be found on the WISC website.

The WISC Facebook event page includes beautiful photos by Czech photographer Matej Trasak.

Congratulations to all competitors, judges, organizers, coordinators, announcers, and supporters in creating a monumental first step in the sport of Indoor Skydiving.

The IBA distinguishes between the sport of indoor skydiving (engaged in by patrons with IBA accounts seeking approval of flight skills though the IBA's Flight Progression System) and recreational flying (engaged in by entertainment customers who do not intend to pursue approval of skills). While indoor skydiving is safe for all ages, the inherent risk of the activity is necessarily greater for those engaging in the sport of indoor skydiving, particularly as they progress through more sophisticated maneuvers.
